Annotation and Evaluation.
We were given the task of producing 9 songs and 2 Articles. The articles were to include certain elements of the video game industry, things such as; The theory of sound, creating an audio environment and many more.
The 9 musical pieces we had to create were divided into 3 sections, zombie horror, sci-fi and dance. For each of these you needed to create 3 pieces, in any way you wanted, I chose to do 1 of each and add a video to match the audio and then I made 2 demos, around 1:30 long for each section, so in total I made 3 for zombie, 3 for dance and 3 for sic-fi.
I find music really inspirational, the way it is compiled and the thoughts and theory that go into a song, I looked at certain video games and how they implemented music into the games, the ambience and sound effects and how you really needed to think outside of the box.
Research.
I looked at lots of video games that matched my genre on youtube, this gave me great inspiration and influence with my work, it gave me the foundation to create a great musical compilation. I would also look at sound articles, and videos showing things such as foley and realistic sound creation, Collectively in a group we created SFX for a game called dying light, in which we primarily were told to use sounds we had sourced ourselves. This was great as it made us think about not the materials we used but how they sounded and making us think outside the box prior to that I found working in a group very rewarding as it was different to the norm and we had to choose roles and I think it made use realise the creative process that goes into nearly every media item.
Outcome.
As I was creating musical scores over a few weeks I could see development in my skills, timing and composing. so with my zombie game I think I hit the atmospherical nail on the head with it, creating a true feeling which had developed from nothing felt great, also going that extra mile and adding SFX just shows how much progression I had made over a short amount of time.
I used two pieces of software, premiere pro and garageband. Premiere pro, this was to edit the videos and was good software in which I was able to add my garageband music files.
Secondly I used garageband to create, edit and compose music. I think i grasped how to use garageband, maybe not to an amazing level but I was very confident in my ability, I learnt a lot about how to loop sounds and just make a musical piece sound to a good standard. I know that garageband isn't a professional piece of equipment but I'm happy with what I created using it.
